Join Houston-based sacred music choir Regi Cantorum for an unforgettable evening of early sacred music. Under the baton of Artistic Director Kevin Clarke, our upcoming fall concert, Sublime Meditations, offers a rare journey into the transcendent polyphony of the Renaissance.
Experience the deeply moving, expressive depths of the English and Continental traditions brought to life in an atmosphere of contemplative beauty. The carefully curated program features an exceptional lineup of 16th-century masterworks, including:
- Thomas Tallis' iconic Lamentations of Jeremiah
- Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's magnificent Tu es Petrus
- Tomás Luis de Victoria's Requiem (Excerpts)
The evening will also feature additional works by legendary composers such as Josquin and Praetorius. Audiences will have the opportunity to hear why Victoria's 1603 Requiem is famously hailed by historians as “a Requiem for an age” (1) and frequently celebrated as being without rival amongst High Renaissance masterpieces (2). Paired with the profound sorrow and gorgeous suspensions of Tallis's Lamentations, the concert promises a deeply restorative and meditative listening experience.
